Particle Lens 2.5

Aerodynamic lens for focussing airborne particles to use with:

aerosol mass spectrometers (e.g., LAAPTOF, AMS, ACSM)
molecular beam machines

The Particle Lens 2.5 is an aerodynamic particle lens with high transmission efficiency for particles in the size range of below 100 nm to above 2.5 µm. The lens has been characterized in independent measurements. For the first measurement the lens was installed in an Aerodyne Research Inc. Q-AMS. The Q-AMS was operated in single particle detection mode sampling size selected particles. The AMS counts were compared to a TSI 3025 CPC. For the second measurement the lens was installed in an Aerodyne Research Inc. TOF-AMS. The mass concentration was compared to the mass concentration calculated from CPC measurements. The graph on the right shows the measured transmission for this lens in the range of 70 nm to 2000 nm in diameter. The scattering of the data is due to measurement uncertainties. No trend in transmission efficiency can be seen for particles larger than 100 nm.
